TryBadminton

Learn to play badminton with like-minded people on a six week beginner’s course.

‘‘TryBadminton’’ is a new, sociable 6-week introductory badminton coaching course for adults (ages 16 and over).  Developed by Badminton England, the sports national governing body, TryBadminton sessions are being held across top sports centres in Sheffield to capitalise on the interest and excitement created from this summer’s Games.

Sheffield International Venues (SIV) managed Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, The English Institute of Sport – Sheffield, Graves Leisure Centre and Hillsborough Leisure Centre are all running courses from October.

The TryBadminton sessions are run by fully qualified Badminton England Coaches, covering the shots, tactics and techniques to give players the confidence and proficiency to play the nation’s no. 1 racket sport. The sessions are delivered at a pace to suit beginners, intermediates and those finding their feet back into the game.

Will Wallace from BADMINTON England said ‘‘TryBadminton courses are currently being held at Westfield and Forge Valley Sports Centres, due to their success and high demand we are now adding four more courses across the City, in partnership with SIV.”

Nina Derbyshire from Ridgeway, is currently attending a TryBadminton course at Westfield Sports Centre and commented ‘‘Myself and my friends all signed up to improve our game as we’ve been playing recreationally over the last few months and we are all loving it! The coaches are friendly and approachable and the sessions contain a variety of tasks and games – when the 90 minutes is up, no one wants to leave!’’

Lorenzo Clark, director of operations at SIV, said: “At SIV we are committed to giving people as many opportunities as possible to take part in their favourite sports and the introduction of the ‘TryBadminton’ courses is no exception. We hope that many people will benefit from the expert coaching available as part of these fantastic sessions.”

Each 6 week course costs just £20 and players who attend all six sessions will receive a free badminton racket.  To find out more or to book your place, simply visit: http://www.trybadminton.co.uk.
