The Mini Orchards Project

Grow Sheffield’s Abundance project is extremely excited to announce an opportunity for local groups to get involved with our latest partnership with the tree-planting charity Trees for Cities.

Over the next 9 months we will be working with a number of local schools, community groups, resident’s associations and voluntary projects to plant orchards and mini orchards across the city.

We are currently looking for interested groups who can fulfill the project criteria below.  If your group can answer yes to the following questions and is keen to set up a fruit tree project please fill in a form registering your interest and telling us a little more about your ideas.

ñ     Are you interested in creating a community orchard on your site?

ñ     Do you have a space of at least 75m2 available for planting (enough for at least 5 trees)?

ñ     Do you have landowner permission to plant trees on the land or can you get this in writing?

ñ     Do you have a group of willing volunteers to undertake the planting activities?

ñ     Do you have a group of willing volunteers to undertake necessary aftercare of the trees?

ñ     Can you produce a 5 year care plan for the trees showing how they will be maintained and incorporated into your group’s activities?

All applications will be reviewed by a panel and successful groups will be informed by the first week of October 2012.  Planting and other activities will take place between October 2012 and March 2013.

To request an expression of interest form or for more information please email Coralie on coralie.grow@gmail.com

The closing date for receiving forms is Monday 24th September, 2012 at 5pm.
