Muslim Elders Support Project

In line with the Sheffield City Council’s Prevention Programme, the Strategic Commissioning and Partnership service are seeking to fund an organisation to deliver a range of additional services for Muslim Elders to complement the existing provision provided by public services and the voluntary community faith sector. Sheffield City Council would like to provide the additional activities in the following targeted neighbourhoods –

  •  Sharrow
  • Abbeydale

The Council has £10,000 to allocate to one organisation for activities / workshops for the period 1st April 2012 to 31st March 2013.   Activity / workshops should be relating to prevention programmes in partnership with health and social care professionals and voluntary organisations and aimed at improving awareness of services and interventions, provide screening for key illnesses and conditions including dementia, improve lifestyles, enhance independence and address social isolation with a particular focus on greater awareness and understanding of mental health needs for Muslim Elders.  Bidding organisations should be suitably qualified to work with vulnerable adults and have the necessary safeguarding policies in place .   Activity must take place between 1st April 2012 and 31st March 2013.

Expressions of Interest need to show (for further information see guidance attached with the invitation) –

  1. Existing links and experience of working with the BME community
  2. Understanding of mental health needs for Muslim Elders
  3. How the activities / workshops will target residents within the Abbeydale / Sharrow corridor
  4. Ability to deliver required activities / workshops
  5. Ability to contribute to the following outcomes all relating to Muslim elders with a focus on mental health needs –
  •  People being better informed of activities / services available
  • Better informed choices
  • Promote healthy and independent living

6.   Ability to deliver the service within the £10,000 budget

All Expressions of Interest will be assessed in February 2012 against the specification, outcomes and outputs indicated in the attached documentation and value for money. (in relation to the overall budget available) The successful organisation will be required to complete a full Project Proposal form and Funding Agreement.
